Participatory Video for Monitoring & Evaluation CASE STUDY: Community-Based Adaptation in Africa

In 2009 InsightShare was invited by IIED (International Institute for Environment and Development) to develop ways to use participatory video to monitor and evaluate climate change adaptation. Over 18 months, we held workshops in South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Malawi under the Community-Based Adaptation in Africa (CBAA) initiative.


Living on a Poisonous Stream PHOTOSTORY

The residents of Permisan village (East Java, Indonesia) have harvested fish from the ponds for generations, but since an environmental disaster at the Lapindo Brantas gas mining site in May 2006, the area has suffered vast eruptions of volcanic mud, burying nearby villages and displacing thousands. This Photostory describes the process by which the residents of Permisan created their film 'Living on a Poisonous Stream'.


Traditional Paddy To The Rescue

'Traditional Paddy To The Rescue' was made by Sri Lankan farmers in 2007 to document the re-introduction of traditional varieties of rice, which grow successfully in their heavily salinated soils.
