InsightShare works with partner organisations to train their staff in Participatory Video facilitators and to assist them in integrating the practice into their programmes. By training trainers we hope to spread the practice of Participatory Video to even more communities and groups.

Find Your Voice - Youth & Democracy

During this participatory video project, a group of young people from Oxfordshire explored what it means to them to live in a democratic country and what young people can do to act for change. After they had learned how to plan and shoot a video, they asked themselves and other youth on the streets of Oxford: if you were a change maker, what would you change in our society?

Children and Conflict in Southern Sierra Leone

UNICEF Sierra Leone has been exploring the linkages between education and peace building through targeted actions such as the Child Friendly Schools action research programme. The Child Friendly Schools initiative is a multi-dimensional concept of quality that addresses the total needs of the child as a learner.

Farmer-to-Farmer Video: The Improved Stove - Why and how to make it?

This training video presents the benefits of an improved stove design, by comparing it to the 'traditional stove': a metal tripod or mud structure with an open fire underneath, which many people in the world use to warm their homes and cook their meals. It also demonstrates exactly how to build it and which materials and tools are needed. The video was made by four farmers and four staff members from the Himalayan Permaculture Centre (HPC) during a participatory video workshop in Baraguan, Surkhet, Nepal. 


Farmer-to-farmer video at the Himalayan Permaculture Centre; a participatory video and action research project

In a mountainous, isolated part of the Surkhet district in Nepal, the Himalayan Permaculture Centre (HPC) works to support people in ten rural villages by promoting no-or-low cost, locally appropriate techniques that have the potential to improve livelihoods. In February 2014, an action research project was undertaken to explore if a farmer-to-farmer mediated extension model, based around the production and dissemination of videos featuring local farmers and HPC staff, could effectively support HPC in their mission.


PV in Conservation, Markets and Justice Research Programme

In May-June 2014, the University of East Anglia invited InsightShare to conduct a training programme in participatory video facilitation for its researchers engaged in the ESRC-funded 'Conservation, Markets and Justice Research Programme'. A two-stage training and mentoring programme was developed for the researchers coming from the UK, Tanzania, Bolivia and China. The training was delivered in Norwich, UK and Kilwa District, Tanzania.

Participatory Video Evaluation for Mercy Corps in Kenya

Mercy Corps' Financial Literacy training has been running for the last 2 years in Rift Valley province. The program was put in place to provide saving, borrowing, spending and investment skills to the funded and randomly selected youth groups within the Local Empowerment for Peace program (LEAP). Mercy Corps invited us to facilitate a participatory video evaluation with program participants in May / June 2013.


Participatory Video in Sakal Aduma

In December 2012, IUCN Netherlands invited InsightShare to conduct a capacity building programme in participatory video facilitation for its partner staff based in Meghalaya, north-east India. A three-stage training programme was developed for staff from the Wildlife Trust of India and reporters from the ‘What If We Change’ project, and delivered between January and April 2013. Girls' voices, girls' priorities: Participatory, innovative tools for capturing girls’ realities and understanding changes in their lives

Our Head of M&E, Soledad Muniz, contributed to this toolkit which brings together user-friendly information and practical, participatory approaches that enable adolescent girl participants in youth-serving organizations to document changes in their lives, and to provide input to shape programs.
